Who cares about Godliness? Does it really matter?
The Bible makes clear that Godliness brings gifts in the present and in the world to come:
“…godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” (1 Timothy 4:8, ESV)
What are the gifts in this world? It brings a peace that can get us through any storm:
“And the effect of righteousness will be peace,
and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.” (Isaiah 32:17, ESV)
What about the life to come? Well it brings salvation. Hang on doesn’t salvation come through Christ? Yes, of course! But if we are godly and keep his commandments we are definitely abiding in Christ (as none of those who aren’t saved are godly) and therefore we can be certain of an inheritance in the next life:
“Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him.” (1 John 3:24, ESV)
When we see what the prize of Godliness is, shouldn’t we seek it? It will give us peace in this world, a true and everlasting peace. Even greater, it is a sign that in the eternal world to come we will be with God.
Let’s search for Godliness with all our might!
